Hi Susan, Thanks for this!! :)

To really see a return on your investment, especially when it comes to social media, companies need to know that it takes time to build relationships with followers/customers. It`s about taking the time to engage in dialogue (Not simply pushing products/services on them).

At the end of the day followers are people looking for information. A company which takes the time to engage will stand head and shoulders above those that do not.

Have a great weekend,
Richard

Glad you enjoyed it - and thanks for the positive comments. It has been a long hard slog but we think we are finally getting there in changing perceptions and persuading people that we build beautiful, fast cars....... all made in Britain!

James, your comments aren't lost on me, and I will be sure to gently place the receiver down, with a polite "Cheerio!" the next time (it is inevitable) a recruiter cold calls...

Paul great content, I totally agree. As an employer I would always be far more impressed with candidates who had got off their backsides and done some research themselves, and paid me the respect of being interested in my business.

Having previously run a recruitment business, I must mitigate a little by defending some recruiters: unless you've done the job yourself you wouldn't appreciate how hard it can be. Many had rock star lifestyles in those long years of excess, without necessarily having much to commend them. Now, there are many people unemployed from the industry, many more on high perecentages of commission and in almost daily threat of losing their job. Recruiters will often work long hours under great stress.

I wouldn't suggest a sympathetic approach - after all these motivational forces mean many are thinking extremely short-term in their business dealings with you as a customer; however before you slam the phone down with venom, spare a thought for these shallow but suffering creatures.

Twitter has been around for a long time and I have been tweeting for a while now but this year it is really coming of age as more people jump on the bandwagon. It can be fantastic for new business development - I have met a lot of my new contacts through Twitter.

I tell people to treat it like real life networking where you tell people what you do in 30 secs – the only difference is you do it in 140 characters. Basically, it helps you build relationships and that is what social media is all about.
